What Happens at Vehicle Inspection with a KTM 390 Adventure?

Wondering what happens when you take a motorcycle fitted with a fog light and side bags through the official vehicle inspection in Turkey? Here is a first-hand account from a KTM 390 Adventure rider.

Arrival and Plate Check

When you arrive at the inspection station, you pull up between the first and second platform lanes. An officer checks your plate number in person before anything else begins.

Brake Test

After the plate check, you are directed to the side area for the brake test. The officer asks whether your motorcycle has combined (ABS) braking. If your answer is no, you first complete a combined brake test, followed by a rear-brake-only test.

Inside the Lane: Suspension and Steering

Just as with cars, you enter through the rear exit gate and proceed through the indoor inspection lane. The steps run in this order:

• Suspension test: Front and rear dampers are checked on an electronic platform.
• Steering sweep: You are asked to turn the handlebars fully to the right and then to the left.
• Lights and indicators: Turn signals and headlights are each checked individually.

Fog Light and Side Bags — Any Issues?

Despite the bike having a fog light installed, the inspectors did not ask about it at any point during the process. The side bags also raised no objections. After verifying the low-beam and high-beam headlight settings, no problems were found.

Signing Off and Passing

Once all checks are clear, you sign the paperwork and the inspection is officially passed. In this case, neither the fog light nor the side bags created any obstacle. That said, experiences can vary between stations and individual officers, so it is worth being prepared for questions that may not have come up here.
