Let Claude Code read Reddit and X with Agent Reach

Agent Reach is an open-source command-line tool that lets agents like Claude Code read places their own web tools can't open, such as Reddit, X and YouTube subtitles. Installing it, the Reddit and X channels, logging in in a separate browser, the first reads and its limits.

You give Claude Code a Reddit link and it says "unable to fetch". You give it an X link and get an HTTP 402 error. I tried both on my own machine on 27 October 2026. These sites block automated reading, and the agent's own web tool can't get in. Agent Reach fills that gap. In this guide I go through the flow I installed on Windows and tried on Reddit and X, including what worked and what didn't. Press Copy at the top right of each command and prompt, paste, carry on.

What we're making

We'll install Agent Reach for Claude Code, turn on the Reddit and X channels and log in once. Then we'll have Claude read a Reddit post with its comments and a tweet with its replies, and summarise them.

What is Agent Reach? Agent Reach is a single command-line tool that opens up platforms agents like Claude Code normally can't get into. Commands always follow the same pattern: agent-reach <channel> <action>. It covers Reddit, X, YouTube subtitles, GitHub, Instagram, LinkedIn job listings and a few Chinese platforms. It's MIT-licensed and has ~104.6k stars on GitHub.

Why does it work? Agent Reach knows which tool to use for each platform; if one fails it moves to the next. The install also copies a skill, and that skill is how Claude knows to use Agent Reach when it sees a Reddit or X link.

At the end you'll have three things:

  1. Agent Reach, usable from Claude Code, logged in to Reddit and X
  2. A summary of a Reddit post together with its comments
  3. A summary of the replies under a tweet

Before you start: secondary accounts and platform rules. Reddit and X don't work without logging in. I tried: without a login both failed. You'll be logging in, so know three things:

  • Don't use your main account; make a secondary one. Agent Reach's own README recommends this. Platforms may restrict accounts that access them automatically.
  • You don't give Claude your password. You log in yourself, in a separate browser window that Agent Reach opens.
  • Use it to learn and research. X, Reddit and Instagram restrict automated reading in their terms. If you republish what you read somewhere else, copyright and platform rules apply to you too.

Agent Reach is read-only. It doesn't post, comment, like or send DMs.

  1. Install Agent Reach

Give Claude Code the link to the official install guide and ask it to install:

    Prompt
Read this install guide and install Agent Reach:
    https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Panniantong/Agent-Reach/main/docs/install.md

    1. Only use the method in this guide. Don't run "pip install agent-reach"; the PyPI package with that name is not this project.
    2. Tell me what you're about to do before installing anything or changing any file.
    3. When you're done, tell me which channels are ready.

Under the hood Claude installs the tool from the GitHub release with uv tool install, then runs agent-reach setup. The install also copies a skill into ~/.claude/skills/agent-reach.

Watch out: there is a package called agent-reach on PyPI and it is not this project. Never type pip install agent-reach. Only install from the guide above.

  2. Add the Reddit and X channels

Channels are turned on one by one. In the terminal, or have Claude do it:

    Terminal
    agent-reach add reddit
    agent-reach add twitter

    X's channel name is twitter.

  3. Log in in a separate browser

    Terminal
    agent-reach login reddit
    agent-reach login twitter

Each command opens Agent Reach's own separate browser window. It's a Chromium that belongs to Agent Reach. It's not the Chrome you use every day, and it's not MCP or Playwright either. Log in with your secondary account in that window, then close it. Claude never sees your password.

If Agent Reach's extension is connected to your Chrome, the tool can also copy that site's cookies from Chrome. That means whichever account you're signed in with in Chrome may be the one it uses. The secondary-account rule applies there too.

To quickly check the login from the terminal:

    Terminal
    agent-reach reddit subreddit ClaudeAI
    agent-reach twitter tweets AnthropicAI

The first lists r/ClaudeAI's latest posts, the second an account's latest tweets.

  4. Have it read a Reddit post

Give it the post's link and say what you want:

    Prompt
Can you summarise this Reddit post for me? At most 5 bullet points. List the main opinions in the comments separately.
    <paste the post link here>

For me, one post came back with its comments in a single go as ~22.7k characters of text. Instead of reading all of it, I read Claude's summary. Listing a subreddit's latest posts worked too.

Reddit search doesn't work right now. It returned an HTML error even after logging in. Instead of searching, give the post or subreddit link directly.

  5. Have it read a tweet's replies

    Prompt
What are people saying in the replies under this tweet? At most 5 bullet points. Also tell me whether the replies back up the tweet's claim or contradict it.
    <paste the tweet link here>

All four things I tried on X worked: keyword search, profile info, an account's latest tweets, and reading a tweet together with its replies.

Bounding the answer helps. If you don't say "at most 5 bullet points", you may get a long dump.

  6. Optional: YouTube subtitles and transcripts

Reading a YouTube video's subtitles is free; no key needed. Give it the video link and say "read the subtitles and summarise".

To turn the speech of a video without subtitles into text, you need a Groq or OpenAI API key. Don't paste the key into the chat with Claude. Run this command in your own terminal and enter the key there:

    Terminal
    agent-reach configure groq-key

What it reads and what it doesn't

PlatformWhat it can doNote
RedditRead a post with its comments, list a subredditLogin needed. Search doesn't work
XSearch, profile, latest tweets, tweet + repliesLogin needed
YouTubeSubtitles; transcripts with a keySubtitles need no key
InstagramUser search, profile, a user's post listDoesn't read reel or video content

The Instagram channel doesn't extract what a reel says. If you're installing it to have Claude read Instagram videos, this tool doesn't do that.

A usage idea

Collect the latest popular posts from a subreddit you follow, or the tweets for a keyword on X, and have Claude summarise them for you. Instead of opening dozens of threads every day, you read a one-page summary.

Prompt
Use Agent Reach to list r/ClaudeAI's latest posts. Open the 3 posts with the most comments, write a 2-sentence summary of each and give me the link.

If you're thinking of republishing these summaries on an account or a site, you're sharing other people's content. Don't do it without knowing the copyright and platform rules.

If you want to remove it

Tell Claude:

Prompt
Remove Agent Reach. Before deleting anything, list what you'll delete and wait for my approval.

The tool lists what it will delete first. Everything lives under ~/.agent-reach/ (tools, browser, logins). The skill the install copied is in ~/.claude/skills/agent-reach.

Tips

Reddit or X returns nothing. These two channels don't work without logging in. Do step 3: agent-reach login reddit or agent-reach login twitter.

Reddit search gives an HTML error. For me it did even after logging in. Give the post or subreddit link instead of searching.

Claude still uses its own web tool. If you see "unable to fetch" or 402, add "read it with Agent Reach" to your prompt.

I installed it with pip install agent-reach. That package isn't this project. Remove it (pip uninstall agent-reach) and install again with the guide in step 1.

It doesn't read my Instagram reel. Right, it doesn't. The Instagram channel only returns users, profiles and post lists.

The answer is too long. Put a limit in the prompt: "at most 5 bullet points".

Done?

  • I installed Agent Reach with the official install.md guide, not pip install
  • I added the channels with agent-reach add reddit and agent-reach add twitter
  • I logged in with my secondary account in the separate browser window
  • I had it read a Reddit post from its link
  • I had it read a tweet's replies
  • I bounded the answer ("at most 5 bullet points")
  • If an API key was needed, I entered it in my own terminal, not in the chat

If you get stuck, message me on Instagram and I'll add it to the guide.
